Highland Park 17 Year Old The Light Bottoling Note

Following on from The Dark, this is the second in a series that represents the four seasons of the Orkney Islands. Whereas The Dark was matured in European oak sherry casks, The Light was matured in American oak refill casks, giving it a more vibrant colour and flavour profile.

Highland Park 17 Year Old The Light pays homage to the fresh air, clear skies and warm summer days in Orkney after a long winter. (The more we celebrate warm summer days, the colder it will usually be. Even in summer, temperatures are most likely to be in the teens.)

To represent the bright, warm season, the wine was refilled with American oak and matured slowly and delicately. The result is a fine balance of caramelised pear, nutmeg, vanilla, freshly smoked peat, cedar and campfire.

The majestic bottle design, embossed with a serpent dragon, is also eye-catching. It also comes in a very cool wooden case, as shown in the picture, and is designed to satisfy the desire for ownership.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Bright citrus notes come to the fore, followed by notes of green apple and sawdust.

Palate: Zesty mango, pear drops, vanilla-rich malt, a hint of smoke, and pink pepper.

Finish: Resinous oak and wax, with a touch of forest earth.
