Kanosuke Artist Edition #001, the first in an annual series of limited edition single malt Japanese whiskies inspired by the five elements of Chinese philosophy, embodies “wood,” symbolized by a strong, upward-growing oak tree.

Kanosuke Artist Edition #001 is a single malt Japanese whisky that was distilled in 2019 at the Kanosuke Distillery using unpeated malt from the UK. After being matured in American white oak recharred casks for over three years, this limited edition whisky was born in 2022.

The “Artist Edition” series is inspired by the five elements of Chinese philosophy (wood, fire, earth, metal, and water), which are deeply rooted in Japanese culture. Each year, a new limited edition whisky is released, featuring a unique label design created by a different artist based on one of the five elements.

The motif for the first release is “wood,” and the label was designed by the illustrator Mariko Hirasawa. The illustration depicts an oak tree, a symbol of strength and vitality, reaching up towards the sky with gentle colors.
