Lowland

Lowland is one of the traditional regions of Scotch whisky production, located in the southern part of Scotland. Historically, the region has been associated with lighter styles of single malt whisky, often linked to triple distillation practices, although this is not universal among all distilleries. Today, the number of active Lowland distilleries is relatively limited compared to other regions.

Compared to Highland or Islay whiskies, Lowland malts are typically positioned as more delicate and restrained in structure. The category includes both historic distilleries and newer developments contributing to its revival. Its lighter style and smaller production base define its place within the Scotch whisky landscape.
