From the white sands of Fukiagehama on Kagoshima’s western coast, the Kanosuke Distillery has released a limited edition expression: Kanosuke Single Malt Sherry Casks Vatted. This bottling adds a new dimension to the distillery’s flagship single malt.

For this special release, the focus is firmly on sherry casks, chosen to highlight and elevate Kanosuke’s signature aromas and flavours. Matured in Spanish Oloroso and Cream Sherry casks, the whisky is layered with spirit from the distillery’s hallmark shōchū casks, which lend a distinctive spicy, Japanese nuance. A touch of new American white oak adds further depth and accent.

Bring the glass to your nose and you’ll find the richness of dark cherries alongside the sweet, indulgent scent of fruit‑laden pound cake. On the palate, mellow fruit notes unfold gently, while the finish lingers with a calm, tropical resonance reminiscent of the sunsets over Fukiagehama.

The bottle design follows the distillery’s core range, inspired by the sun sinking into the East China Sea, with a soft reddish hue evoking the influence of sherry casks.

Nose: Dark cherry, vanilla, cinnamon, raspberry.

Palate: Gentle raisins, dark chocolate, clove, fruit‑rich pound cake, lychee.

Finish: Mangosteen, lingering oaky bitterness.

Overall: While related to the standard Kanosuke Single Malt, this vatted sherry cask edition offers a markedly different profile. The mellow character remains, but the sherry influence brings pronounced sweetness, fruitiness and spice. A must‑try for lovers of sherry‑matured whisky.
