Longrow 18 Year Old Overview

Springbank Distillery has three main official bottles, Springbank, Hazelburn, and Longrow. Longrow is the most peaty malt of the three and has a smoky flavor.

Longrow 18 years is distilled twice with heavy peat and aged over 18 years in two different casks (75% in sherry casks and 25% in bourbon casks).

Although it is often overshadowed by Springbank due to its name recognition, the Longrow 18 year old in particular has received high praise from critics and has a reputation for the taste.

It is produced in limited quantities, with only 4,800 bottles produced each year worldwide.

Longrow 18 Year Old Tasting Notes

Nose: apple peel, smoke, earthy peat, wet leaves, truffle, wood shed, oat porridge, soot.

Palate: peaty and spicy. Very oily, with hints of orange peel, pepper, and chili. Large herring, smoked meat, honey.

Finish: spicy, oily, dark, earthy and peaty.

The balance of this whiskey is remarkable. It is rich, oily and deep on the palate. All of the tasting notes are packed into the flavor, but there is also a touch of sweet licorice. The sweetness is perfect, balanced by the saltiness of the long finish with ash and smoke.
