Description
Hanyu Genesis Bottling Note
The former Hanyu Distillery, established by Toa Shuzo, produced whisky from 1980 to 1991. After one final production run in 2000, the distillery was closed. Following the closure, the whisky made at the Hanyu Distillery was brought back into the spotlight by Ichiro Akuto, who had become independent from Toa Shuzo. He released it under the name “Ichiro’s Malt Hanyu.”
Meanwhile, after a change in ownership, Toa Shuzo decided to revive the Hanyu Distillery. Based on the original pot still blueprints, they had new pot stills manufactured, and the new Hanyu Distillery was completed in 2021.
Hanyu Genesis is the first single malt whisky released by the new Hanyu Distillery, four years after its reopening in 2021.
This whisky is a blend of non-peated and peated malts, aged for three years (38 months) in first-fill bourbon barrels in the Hanyu region. It is characterized by a prominent peat aroma that becomes more noticeable as you drink, along with a surprisingly smooth and light mouthfeel for a whisky with 51% alcohol.
Named in honor of the new distillery’s 2021 reopening, Hanyu Genesis is a limited-edition release of 2,021 bottles, each with its own serial number.
