Sakurao Single Malt is a single malt whisky produced at the Sakurao Distillery, located in Sakurao, Hatsukaichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan.

The Sakurao Distillery has two prominent brands: “Sakurao” and “Togouchi.” The distinctive feature of the distillery is its use of two separate maturation cellars to create whiskies with different flavor profiles: “Sakurao” is matured by the sea south of the distillery, while “Togouchi” is matured in the mountains to the north. In 2022, the core products—”Sakurao Single Malt” and “Togouchi Single Malt”—were released, both bottled at 43% ABV.

Sakurao Single Malt is aged in four different cask types for over three years in the Sakurao cellar. This cellar, located in the original home of the distillery, is close to the Seto Inland Sea, allowing the sleeping malt spirit to subtly absorb the scent of the tide. A characteristic feature of this location is the rapid maturation due to the large temperature variations throughout the year.

The whisky offers aromas of raisin, orange, and peach, followed by a vanilla-like sweetness and a balanced amount of astringency and acidity. Please enjoy the pleasant smokiness, the scent of the cask, and the long, rich, sweet aroma.

Nose: Raisin, orange, peach, a hint of tide, and subtle peat.

Palate: Vanilla sweetness, balanced astringency, and acidity.

Finish: Smoky, with cask aroma, a rich, sweet scent, and a lingering bitterness.

Overall: A complex and deep flavor with long-lasting woody notes and a subtle touch of peaty aroma. The rich sweetness and slight bitterness are noticeable. When served on the rocks, it develops a sweetness reminiscent of a sugar-coated mandarin orange.
