Kirin Fuji-Sanroku Signature Blend Bottling Note
Introduced in 2017, the Kirin Fuji-Sanroku Signature Blend is a blended whisky produced at the Kirin Fuji Gotemba Distillery. Categorized as a Japanese blended whisky, it stands out for its full-bodied character and deep, mature flavors imparted by the aging process.
The “Fuji-Sanroku” series itself was launched in September 2005, with the following whiskies released:
- Fuji-Sanroku Tarujuku Genshu 50° (discontinued)
- Fuji-Sanroku Signature Blend (this product)
- Fuji-Sanroku Single Malt 18 Year Old (discontinued)
- Fuji-Sanroku Blended 18 Year Old (discontinued)
Until its discontinuation in 2019, Fuji-Sanroku Tarujuku Genshu 50° was positioned as a more affordable option, while the Signature Blend was considered its premium counterpart. The Tarujuku Genshu 50° offered a well-balanced combination of maturity and body, but the Signature Blend took this maturity to even greater heights. It is a highly refined Japanese whisky that brings out the vanilla and fruity aromas of the bourbon barrels. This is largely due to the meticulous selection of barrel sizes and the company’s commitment to identifying the optimal aging period for each whisky.
From the diverse range of aged whiskies stored at the foot of Mount Fuji, their blenders carefully monitor the maturation process. Instead of being solely focused on the number of years aged, they pinpoint the “maturation peak”* – the moment when each whisky exhibits its unique characteristics at their finest. These expertly selected malt and grain whiskies, produced in-house by Kirin, blend together to create a harmonious symphony of flavors.
*Maturation peak refers to the optimal point in a whisky’s aging process where its inherent flavors and characteristics are most pronounced. Factors such as the nature of the new make spirit, the type of cask used, and the temperature and humidity conditions of the aging environment influence the timing of this peak.
The Kirin Fuji-Sanroku Signature Blend is nurtured in the rich natural environment surrounding Mount Fuji. The clean air purified by the dense forests, the cool average annual temperature of approximately 13 degrees Celsius, the moderate humidity provided by the constant mist, and the abundant underground water filtered through the layers of Mount Fuji’s volcanic rock all contribute to the ideal conditions for whisky making. These gifts from nature play a vital role in creating the exceptional quality of “Fuji-Sanroku.”
