Bushmills Original is a blended Irish whiskey produced at the Old Bushmills Distillery in County Antrim, Northern Ireland—the world’s oldest licensed distillery, with roots tracing back to 1608.

This expression serves as the cornerstone of the Bushmills range and reflects a recipe that predates Prohibition in the United States. It combines triple-distilled single malt whiskey with Irish single grain, resulting in a light-bodied blend that has remained consistent in style for over a century. The distillery uses water drawn from Saint Columb’s Rill, a tributary of the River Bush, and continues to operate with traditional copper pot stills.

Bushmills Original is matured for a minimum of five years in seasoned American oak casks, which contribute to its smooth texture and subtle vanilla influence. The use of ex-bourbon barrels is central to its mellow character, while the triple distillation process ensures a clean, refined spirit. Unlike peated Scotch whiskies, Bushmills Original is unpeated, allowing the grain and malt components to shine through without smoky interference.

Bushmills Original Tasting Note

Nose: Light and inviting, presenting gentle notes of honey and ripe apple, underpinned by a subtle, sweet maltiness and a whisper of vanilla from the oak.

Palate: A smooth, accessible entry. The taste is clean and balanced, featuring delicate fruit flavours, creamy vanilla fudge, and a hint of toasted grain. The mouthfeel is notably soft.

Finish: Relatively short and crisp, leaving a pleasant warmth and a lingering, faint sweetness reminiscent of butterscotch. Very clean and easy.
