Experience a welcoming island dram with the Jura 10 Year Old, a captivating single malt produced by the Isle of Jura Distillery. Located on the rugged, remote Inner Hebridean island of Jura, the distillery was originally founded in 1810 but was famously rebuilt in 1963 by two local estate owners aiming to revitalise the small community. This enduring spirit of the island, where fewer than 200 people reside, is encapsulated in every bottle.

The Jura 10 Year Old is a cornerstone of the distillery’s core range, offering an approachable yet complex flavour profile that perfectly balances its island heritage. The whisky is matured for a full decade in American White Oak ex-bourbon barrels. This initial period establishes the smooth, vanilla-rich character that is typical of the Jura spirit. The maturation process is then completed with a finishing touch in the finest aged Oloroso Sherry casks sourced from Jerez in Spain.

This dual cask maturation imparts a rich copper-gold colour and a distinct combination of flavours. The whisky displays a gentle warmth with an inviting, subtly smoky undertone alongside notes of dark chocolate and vanilla cream. Its character is harmonious and well-rounded, presenting a lovely mix of fruitiness and light spice that reflects the use of exceptionally tall stills during distillation, which promote a lighter spirit. Jura 10 Year Old Tasting Note

Nose: Gentle sweetness, prominent cereal notes, and vanilla pod from the bourbon casks, underpinned by soft dark fruit and a whisper of wood smoke.

Palate: Medium weight and smooth texture. Initial warmth leads to flavours of toasted almonds, light spice, and a creamy dark chocolate note, balanced by ripe stone fruit.

Finish: Moderately long, with the sherried sweetness gently fading, leaving a suggestion of cocoa and a dry, gentle salinity.

Overall: A well-balanced island single malt that successfully integrates its core spirit with the dual maturation in bourbon and Oloroso sherry. Highly accessible and dependable.
