Akkeshi Risshu: Bottling Note
Akkeshi Risshu is a single malt Japanese whisky and part of the “24 Solar Terms Series.”
“Risshu” marks the 13th solar term in the traditional Japanese calendar, signifying the beginning of autumn. This release is crafted as a fitting “prelude to the final chapter” of the series, encapsulating the essence of previous expressions.
The malt used comes from the UK, New Zealand, and Hokkaido. The key malt is made entirely from Hokkaido ingredients—Hokkaido-grown barley, distilled in Akkeshi, and matured in native Mizunara oak casks. Additional maturation includes bourbon and sherry casks.
Akkeshi’s signature gentle peat combines beautifully with the elegant, aromatic woodiness of Mizunara. The harmony of sweetness, acidity, and umami evokes the subtle transitions of the seasons.

Akkeshi Risshu Tasting Note
Nose: Compote of peaches and apricots, orange bitters, lemongrass, almond caramel, vanilla over custard pudding, black sugar syrup, dried persimmon, and a soft smokiness reminiscent of a campfire.
Palate: Smoky and peaty, with notes of lemon cake, orange macaron, gingerbread, and a light acidity. Medium-bodied, creamy, and gently sweet.
Finish: Coarsely ground black pepper, a savory spiciness like ginger soy sauce, and a lingering sweetness of lemon candy. Slightly bitter, with subtle barrel aromas and a pronounced smoky character.
Overall: Akkeshi Risshu carries a character reminiscent of Islay malts. It strikes a refined balance between robust smokiness, delicate fruitiness, nuanced spice, and elegant cask influence.
