Yuza Special Blend Bottling Note

Yuza Special Blend is a Blended Japanese Whisky produced by Yuza Distillery, located in Yuza Town, Yamagata Prefecture, and operated by Kinryu Co., Ltd. Crafted from domestic grain whisky and a selection of malt whiskies produced at Yuza Distillery, it is released as a No Age Statement (NAS) expression. Bottled at 46% ABV, it is presented in a 700ml format.

Yuza Distillery began whisky production in 2018 and has become known for a house style often characterised as “clean, sweet and fruity”. While the distillery has primarily built its reputation through the single malt YUZA range, Yuza Special Blend takes a different approach by combining both malt and grain whiskies within a blended Japanese whisky format.

One of the defining features of Yuza Special Blend is its rich sherry-cask-derived aroma, reminiscent of raisins and dried fruits, as highlighted in the official tasting notes. Whilst presenting a different profile from the distillery’s single malt releases, it still retains the fruity character associated with the Yuza style.

This release joins the distillery’s blended whisky line-up alongside YUZA Classical Blend and YUZA Signature Blend. According to trade information provided for retailers, the domestic launch was supported by the maturation of sufficient grain whisky stocks. Compared with Signature Blend, Yuza Special Blend is said to contain a slightly higher proportion of grain whisky. The series demonstrates different blending philosophies across each expression, showcasing the diversity of the distillery’s maturing stock.

Another notable aspect of the whisky is its compliance with the Japanese Whisky Labelling Standards established by the Japan Spirits & Liqueurs Makers Association. For a distillery that has largely focused on single malts, Yuza Special Blend represents a broader expression of its whisky-making approach through the incorporation of domestic grain whisky alongside its house malt spirit.
